Discover the Power of AI Agents on Decentralized Blockchains
Understand how AI Agents and Decentralized Blockchains are Coalescing
When you combine AI and blockchains you get autonomous computer programs operating with purchasing power in an always-on universe.
AI technologies are coalescing to form powerful networks of interconnected AI systems. That’s the beauty of software. You can stitch it all together.
Decentralized blockchains are helping us create global computers with applications and data that can be used by anyone.
Here, you will understand the power of AI agents on Decentralized Blockchains.
A Summary of the Core Insights
AI agents can understand, reason, plan, and take actions.
Decentralized blockchains are immutable repositories of code and data.
Decentralized blockchains hold applications that can be used by AI agents 24/7 as the AI’s work towards their goals.
There will be thousands upon thousands of API’s in many different sectors that AI agents will be able to access and use (Design Software, Engineering Modeling Software, Financial Trading Software, Social Media Applications, Games).
The Fundamentals of AI Agents
“AI agents understand, reason, plan, and take action.” — Nvidia Co-founder and CEO Jensen Huang.
They do this based on goals that they are created to achieve.
Here are the fundamental components of an AI agent as they are stated in Russel & Norvig’s Artificial Intelligence:
Performance: a measure of how well the AI is doing against its given goal ( i.e. KPI’s).
Environment: the space in which it operates (in this case, the nearly infinite space of the blockchain).
Actuators: the set of actions it can take (in this case, any API it can find on the blockchain).
Sensors: the elements through which they are able to gain data about the world.
AI agents have the ability to learn, changing directions and adjusting their actions as they pursue their goals.
AI agents can operate on blockchains.
A token is a ‘toll’ fee that is necessary to use resources on a network. Imagine that you’re riding on your favorite highway and you pay the toll. That’s mainly what a token enables you to do (although there are other use cases, including voting on where to take the software next).
AI agents will have coins/tokens to spend on resources.
Resources can be used to pay other AI agents to do work, use datasets, and leverage APIs.
So… AI agents can spend their tokens to achieve goals with powerful resources: autonomously.
One person can use one application at a time. Imagine an AI agent using dozens upon dozens of applications at one time. They will do a whole lot more than us. It’s already happening.
The Fundamentals of Blockchains
A decentralized blockchain is a network of computers that stores applications and data.
Each node in the network of computers has its own copy of the data and applications.
Key features of decentralized blockchains include:
Decentralization: No single entity controls the network, making it resistant to censorship and manipulation.
Transparency: All transactions are visible to network participants.
Immutability: Once data is recorded, it cannot be altered without consensus from the network.
Security: Cryptographic techniques ensure the integrity of the data.
A blockchain can operate as an infinite environment that is always on and where AI agents can navigate freely as long as they have resources (tokens).
Tokens, mediums of exchange on blockchains, enable people and AI agents to use applications and data however they see fit. The more intelligent an agent is, the better it will understand how to use the resources it has in its possession.
Over time, agents will better learn to navigate the blockchain to achieve their goals.
Connecting Blockchains and Agents
AI agents understand, reason, plan, and take action.
A blockchain is a giant computer in the sky that is always on.
AI agents can allocate their resources (tokens) to utilizing applications and data in service of the goals that we assign them.
AI agents learn over time and get better at doing more with less resources.
We will have a digital universe of AI agents collaborating to complete goals.
This is fascinating AND terrifying.
The Human Orchestrator: Setting Goals
We can create and use agents.
The agents can do a variety of things for us.
For example:
Engage on social media
Trade stocks
Write code
Design video games
Analyze personal data
Really, almost anything that a human can do.
The capacity of an AI agent will always depend on its code and its programmer, so quality will vary. People will pay premiums for premiere AI powerhouses.
We can set the goal of: build me a video game or create a viral social media profile on X for me or trade on Coinbase until you’ve made 100% profit.
The AI will work towards this goal until it runs out of resources (tokens) or it gets the right feedback from the world (it can adjust until it gets 1,000 likes on X).
AI Agents Collaborating Together
Networks of AI agents will work together to achieve goals. To me, this is the most interesting part in all of this.
Each agent will have one specialty. Here are some examples of what agents could specialize in.
Operate design software like Canva
Trade cryptocurrencies
Design 3D models on CAD or Blender
Analyze social media sentiment
Create blog posts
Write code
Be the master conductor
There will be an agent that orchestrates all the other agents, the master conductor.
These ‘conductor’ agents will connect other agents in sequential chains in order to execute goals at grand scales.
There will be some kind of very specific scoring mechanism via which agents select other agents on blockchains.
You will have armies of “agents” at your command operating on the always-on blockchain. This is true, unprecedented power.
Closing Thoughts
AI agents will be operating on blockchains 24/7, attempting to complete tasks. There will be teams of agents with different levels of functionality: building applications, using applications, trading stocks, optimizing computing infrastructure, designing 3D objects, trying to gain attention on social media... and a whole lot more.
This will be a mess at first, but it will evolve and eventually flow. The possibilities here are limitless.
We have to think critically about the direction in which we want to take this. The future is a very interesting place.
